Provide a safe home for hedgehogs and insects by placing fallen leaves underneath hedges and shrubs to create leaf piles. Many animal and insect species rely on these as vital sources of food and shelter over the winter months, especially hedgehogs. And come next spring the insects, such as butterfly and moth caterpillars, will provide much-needed food for birds feeding their babies. Latest research has revealed that older people who own pets fall asleep more easily and feel consistently more positive about their local environment than those who don’t have animals.
