Ukraine has been officially calling the fighting against Russian-separatist forces in the Donbas an “Anti-Terrorist Operation,” or ATO, for three years. Now, a new acronym is in the works. Deputy Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Displaced People Yuri Grymchak said that the draft law on reintegration of Russian-occupied parts of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts suggests dropping ATO for “Operation to Defend Ukraine,” or ODU. No matter how much government avoids the term, it’s still a war – Russia’s war, killing 10,000 people since 2014.
