Ukraine’s De­fense Min­is­ter Stepan Poltorak de­moted Colonel Yevhen Korol on July 24 be­cause of his al­leged cor­rup­tion. The colonel is un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion af­ter it emerged that he and other of­fi­cers may have stolen 200 tons of fuel and sold it, at a loss of over Hr 1.1 mil­lion to the state. How­ever, this isn’t the first, or big­gest, scan­dal to hit the min­istry. Poltorak’s own deputy was de­tained in Oc­to­ber fol­low­ing the dis­cov­ery of a cor­rup­tion scheme that re­sulted in the em­bez­zle­ment of over Hr 149 mil­lion of public funds.
