Kyiv Post - - OPINION -

Embattled Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko has started his self-proclaimed sixth term as president of Belarus. However, his inauguration ceremony on Sept. 23 took Belarusians by surprise — Lukashenko didn’t announce it in advance, so only top government officials were present. The Belarusian opposition describes the ceremony as a “thieves meeting” and a “farce,” as it happened while protests over Lukashenko’s dubious election win continued. Ukraine, the U.S. and the European Union didn’t recognize Lukashenko as the legitimate president of Belarus even after the inauguration.
