EDITOR’S NOTE

201 Family - - EDITOR’S NOTE -

It’s hard to believe that kids are already back to school. Summer is like a blur with hardly enough time to do all the fun things you planned back in the spring.

But, back to school is always an exciting time. The endless quest for the perfect school supplies, including finding the perfect planner, is finally complete and makes way for the onslaught of forms and other school necessities.

I am blessed with children who love to read. From their early days in elementary school through middle and high school years, the school library has always been an integral part of their learning experience. School libraries are exciting places to be and the media specialists, as the contemporary school librarian is called, have the expertise to help guide students on their learning path and make discovery and exciting experience.

Raising an emotional child requires a special skill set. In this issue, we discuss tools for helping parents cope with emotional kids and to help the children regulate the swing of their feelings in a positive way.

Like choosing a pediatrician, choosing a preschool is one of the most important decisions parents make in their young children’s lives. A preschool sets the stage for higher learning later on and a high-quality experience enhances the child’s prospects for learning. Consider the curriculum, the daily routine, staff credentials and the general atmosphere of the school. And, of course, visits the schools and get feedback from other parents.

September also means soccer to thousands of youth and high school athletes in our communities. One local high school coach, Tara Madigan of Northern Highlands High School, has built a reputation for excellence while taking her team to repeated state championships.

Our Do-Gooder this month is Lynn Barral, who brought a special recital to the Children’s Therapy Center in Fair Lawn. It was a thrilling experience for Barral, the students, and all of the volunteers who participated in the program.

Finally, enjoy a trip to the Turtle Back Zoo and Treetop Adventure – always a fun day out.
