Lau­ren’s baby shower

Be­ing that chef Ninamarie Bojekian-Men­doza is the owner of a cater­ing and event plan­ning com­pany, her days are al­ways re­volv­ing around food and par­ties. So what does a chef pick as her theme at her own baby shower? Food, of course!

She started off with a “Crav­ings” menu as the base­line for the theme and feel of the event.

“I wanted the food to be ex­cit­ing and fun,” Bojekian-Men­doza says. “I wanted our guests to in­dulge in all preg­nant food crav­ings with us. From street food to sal­ads, I wanted the fla­vors to pop.”

Two different food trucks served guests. Pizza Vita served napoleon-style in­di­vid­ual pies that came straight out of their mo­bile pizza oven in less than 90 sec­onds. Each pizza had a va­ri­ety of top­pings. The CoolHaus ice cream truck served up made-to-order ice cream sand­wiches. Guests were able to choose from five different cookie fla­vors and five different ice cream fa­vors, hand-dipped ice cream bars, and glass-bot­tled cold­brewed Stump­town Cof­fee.

The other items on the menu came from the Ooh La La kitchen and in­cluded plan­tain-crusted Mahi Mahi tacos, four fresh and col­or­ful sal­ads, and fresh­pressed au­then­tic Cuban sand­wiches and Spanako­pita.

“The baby will be Cuban, Greek and Ar­me­nian, so I had to throw the sand­wiches and spinach pies in the mix,” says Bojekian-Men­doza.

The desserts didn’t stop at the ice cream truck. They also in­cluded fun­fetti “sprin­kles-all-over” cake, choco­late caramel ba­con tarts and vanilla cus­tard fresh fruit tarts – all from Sweet, Love & Cake.

“We even had the in­fa­mous pick­les in the mix,” Bojekian-Men­doza says. “Ev­ery guest took home a jar of the amaz­ing Mrs. Pick­les Gourmet pick­les in ei­ther spicy ‘Hot Mama’ or ‘Orig­i­nal.’”

One el­e­ment that Bojekian-Men­doza wanted from the start was a bar “that gave just a juice bar vibe,” she says. “We served three spe­cialty cock­tails all made with fresh-squeezed juices. You’ll be sur­prised how amaz­ing a piña co­lada on-the-rocks is when it’s made up of fresh juice, freshly toasted co­conut and aged dark rum.”

“The shower came out ex­actly as my mother, mother-in-law and I en­vi­sioned,” Bojekian-Men­doza says. “We re­ally wanted a beau­ti­ful sum­mer af­ter­noon for all the spe­cial women in our lives to sit back and en­joy the gor­geous col­ors around them… and in­dulge in spe­cialty foods with fresh drinks, next to an 8-foot rub­ber duck… and that’s ex­actly what we got! It was an over­whelm­ing feel­ing for me per­son­ally, and I am so grate­ful to have had such a per­fect day with loved ones while await­ing the ar­rival of our son.”
