A QUARTET OF CHARMING BEDROOMS FOR GIRLS

201 Family - - 2017 SCHOOL GUIDE - WRITTEN BY AMELIA DUGGAN

When you have a home with four girls of various ages, it’s important to let them express their individuality and creativity. Taking part in the interior design of their bedrooms is the perfect way to let them learn about furnishings and finishes and to give them a sense of accomplishment – not to mention a cool place to hang out in.

LAVENDER AND TURQUOISE TEEN DREAM

An emerald green lacquered built-in wall of cabinets and closets is a signature feature of this teen bedroom. A wall-to-wall carpet in an animal print was chosen not only for its hip pattern, but for its durability. A king-size bed with a linen headboard is accessorized with Italian bedding and John Robshaw pillows. The nightstands are two small vanity desks painted in black lacquer by the homeowner. Again, Lucite chairs are used specifically to vanish into the space. The Barbie prints are original and the yellow eglossine is from Hartgers in Wyckoff. The room also features a Murano chandelier and peacock lamps from Shades of SoHo. The molding is all lacquered and the ceiling has a glittery shimmer that was incorporated into the Benjamin Moore paint, producing a sheen.

STAR IN STRIPES

The room reflects the personality of the child who lives in it and has a Palm Beach mod vibe to it, making it youthfully fun with sophisticated pieces. The teen wanted her room to be more of a hangout space than a pure bedroom, so a John Robshaw daybed with Jonathon Adler bedding was selected as a starting point. The striped walls are painted in grey and white flat paint from Fine Paints of Europe and all of the trim and the ceiling are a high lacquer finish. The space also features a Brutalist dresser in white lacquer finish with a mirrored top from Artistic Glass in Glen Rock. The Italian ceramic topiary on the small dresser was found in an antique shop in Manhattan.

SOOTHING INSPIRATION

The inspiration for this room comes from a necklace that the homeowner found in an antique store. The colors are soft and relaxing, but bold at the same time. The coral ceiling is painted with shimmer glitter incorporated and the moldings are in high gloss lilac lacquer. The bed is a vintage brass, found in Los Angeles and the inlaid nightstands are in mint lacquer. In the sitting area is an assortment of John Robshaw and Adler pillows. A sisal indoor/outdoor rug was chosen to give the space a casual feel. The canvas sofa is from Crate and Barrel, the chandelier and light fixtures from Jonathon Adler, and the accessories are Herme’s. Garden stools serve as cocktail tables and are set on top of a sheepskin rug.

JILL AND JILL BATHROOM

This shared bath features charming penny tile on the floor and subway tile with accents of green glass on the walls, which are accented by original Diane Von Furstenberg prints. The vanity has a Carerra marble countertop and white cabinetry. Pocket doors on both sides of the bathroom maximize the space.
