Afew years ago when Stacey An­tine, reg­is­tered di­eti­tian and di­rec­tor of the HealthBarn Foun­da­tion, was tak­ing care of her father dur­ing his cancer treat­ments, the sim­ple act of pre­par­ing him a healthy meal proved chal­leng­ing. “With all of the hours we spent with him in treat­ment, my mom and I were wiped out and the idea of mak­ing him a healthy meal at the end of every day was daunt­ing,” she says.

The ex­pe­ri­ence got her think­ing. “If it’s dif­fi­cult for a di­eti­tian to pre­pare some­thing nu­tri­tious, imag­ine what it must be like for the par­ent of a child with a se­ri­ous ill­ness who just doesn’t have the en­ergy or the means to do this,” An­tine says.
