We decided to take the kids out for one of their first muddin’ experiences, and as luck would have it, everything was frozen. No problem!
I had my Bronco, with a 400M, a Holley four-barrel carb, an Edelbrock Performer manifold and air cleaner, a C6, an NP205,
33-inch Maxxis Big Horns, and of course my inability to think ahead. With me was my brother-in-law, who has an ’81 Chevy 3⁄4 ton with a mild 402, 36-inch Super Swamper TSLs, and 20 years of off-roading experience (and reading your magazine). I figured there was no way anything could go wrong.
We were tearing up the ice and revealing that sloppy mud we were looking for. Things were really looking up for our afternoon, so I decided it was time to take the Bronco just a little farther onto an unexplored corner of the ice. After a full-throttle water-splashing, ice-slashing wheelie up the far bank, the Bronco stalled out and, well, the pictures speak for themselves. Everyone got out OK, including the Bronco.
Lesson learned? I need more power, bigger tires, and a nice big lift!
