Darnell Kirkwood (Jordan)
Darnell Kirkwood is ready for fans of THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS to see all of Jordan’s sides
Just who is THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Jordan Wilde? Not only have fans been asking that question ever since Darnell Kirkwood slipped into the role of the sexy Jabot photographer, but they’ve weighed in with their opinion that there is more to him than meets the eye! “I’ve had a lot of fans writing to me, because they have thought Jordan was too nice!” he shares with a laugh. “It’s been kind of funny to get so much grief about him being a nice guy!
“But I understand,” he hastens to add. “I was binge-watching HOMELAND, and there was a character on there from Germany. He was such a nice person that I started to go, ‘There’s got to be something exposed about this guy!’ I then realized I was falling into the same trap as Y&R fans. I turned to my girlfriend and was like, ‘Oh, that’s why people keep thinking there’s going to be another side to Jordan!”
Eventually, of course, Jordan did show another side when it was revealed he’d been a grifter, sharing a history with reformed con artist Chelsea. The twist, Kirkwood says, didn’t throw him off the backstory he’d created for the character. “I thought that there had to be a contrast coming up — some kind of darkness or some other side of him waiting to be explored.
“Finding that out [about his past] didn’t change how I thought of Jordan,” he continues. “I always figured you had to go through certain ex-
periences to get where you are now, and those experiences could be good and bad.”
Torn Between Two Women
Still, it’s not Jordan’s past but his current love life that has the Internet buzzing. “I’m literally living day to day in Jordan’s relationship with Hilary and his friendship with Lily!” Kirkwood laughs. “One of the biggest things he loves about Hilary is her [ambition]. She’s doing whatever it takes to be a self-made, successful lady in her career. She also has a [firecracker] personality that he appreciates!”
On the other hand, the actor says that
Jordan is in the process of exploring his feelings for Lily. “That’s cool. They’ve been friends for a long time, but now Jordan might have some curiosity in that regard.”
Ironically, whichever woman the hunk ends up cuddling with, Kirkwood is bracing for angry tweets from Hevon and Lane fans. “Oh, no question, but I’m ready for it! And I understand it!” he says, chuckling. “I know there are Cane fans who are extremely supportive of him [and his portrayer, Daniel Goddard]. Daniel has done great work and has been on the show a long time, so I would expect them to be loyal to him. I can respect that!
“But,” he adds, “it makes me have to work harder to win them over!”
Nice… And Naughty?
In addition to a somewhat tricky love life, Kirkwood is interested in exploring Jordan’s business side. “He’s a photographer, but I’d love to see him develop a CEO mentality… where he owns his own business. I want him to continue to challenge himself to be his best and see what his next level of achievement is.”
And if that brings out yet another side of Jordan, well, Kirkwood is cool with that, too. “I don’t think he’s a bad guy, but when you come into the soap world, you’ve got to be prepared to see your character evolve and become not necessarily bad but maybe darker,” he theorizes. “I don’t know what’s ahead, but it’s going to get interesting, and that is exciting in and of itself!”

Kirkwood says that both Y&R and the ABC soaps were watched during his childhood. Back in the day, “ALL MY CHILDREN was a big deal in my house!”
Kirkwood says that Sidney Poitier inspires him as an actor. “He truly paved the way and opened so many doors,” marvels the actor. “You cannot deny the commitment he has to his craft. I love him!”
“Jordan’s big question for Hilary is, ‘You say that you’re a good person, but are you really?’” the actor says of his alter ego’s love interest. “Jordan wants to be in a relationship with a good person!”
Kirkwood thinks that working with Lily has increased Jordan’s feelings for her. “Sometimes,” the Y&R star says, “you become more attracted to the person the more time you spend with them!”
Jordan isn’t a Malcolm rerun!
