ABC Soaps In Depth - - Feature Interview -

When Nichols first stepped into his iconic role, he had no idea how much fun he was in for. “When Patch was established in 1985, there was an amazing creative team at DAYS… The atmosphere on set was electric!” Nichols recalls. “They gave me a crappy dime-store patch, a leather jacket, and I hit the ground running!” While he admits that wearing Steve’s eye cover is “irritating,” Nichols has found ways to minimize that. “I don’t walk around wearing it unless I’m actually on the set working,” he offers. “Otherwise, it’s up on my forehead.” He also replaces his glasses during scenes with monovision contacts. “The left eye is a reading lens, and the right eye is a distance lens,” he shares. “If I need to look at my script or something, I can just flip the patch up and use the reading lens.”

Before DAYS, Nichols had played small parts on DALLAS and DYNASTY.
