Is “A New Bump In The Road” Ahead?
THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’s Eric and Quinn haven’t had much storyline of late, a development many fans — not to mention their portrayers — would love to see rectified!
The In Depth Story: John McCook (Eric) says the fact that he and his co-star, Rena Sofer (Quinn), have taken a back seat on the show in recent months is an example of the natural ebb and flow that different storylines take. “We haven’t been on the can- vas much,” he acknowledges, “but it’s all cool, because the show has been involved with this great [Who shot Bill?] storyline lately, and we’re not part of that story. That’s all. So if you’re not in the [current] story, you’re not on the show.”
Once the soap does decide to circle back to the relationship between Quinn and Eric, might Sheila continue to factor in as a wouldbe spoiler? “I don’t think so,” muses Sofer. “I love the whole Sheila [rivalry], but there’s really only one note to play there.”
Instead, Sofer says she’d enjoy a storyline that pits Eric and Quinn against each other in some new and different way. “I’d like to see Eric do something wrong, where Quinn is in the position of having to make a tough decision and put her foot down, where he pays the price of losing her.”
“I’d like to see Eric do something wrong… where he pays the price of losing Quinn.”
That’s not to say Sofer is looking for Eric and Quinn to part ways, but she’d love for them to encounter an obstacle that really threatens their relationship. “I’m very, very, very protective of Quinn and Eric, and I know that’s probably the worst thing to be on a soap opera,” she says, alluding to the fact that “happily ever after” scenarios can be the death knell for couples. “I wouldn’t want to not work with [McCook], but I’d like to see Quinn and Eric encounter a new bump in the road that isn’t necessarily about Ridge, something that tests them in a different way.”
It’s just a matter of time before Eric and Quinn get taken off the backburner.
