Nancy Lee Grahn dug into Alexis’ control issues
GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Alexis had an epiphany in therapy, and while it wouldn’t immediately help her family, it led to a big win for Oscar — and a Gold Star victory for the lawyer’s portrayer, Nancy Lee Grahn!
A Julexis Moment
After the actress conjured up some Julexis chemistry with William deVry in a beautiful scene about the exes’ evolving relationship, Oscar’s predicament came up, and Alexis approached the topic as both an attorney and a mother. While protecting her potential new client, she tried to learn all that she could from Julian.
But when she met with Oscar, she cut right to the chase and urged the teenager to remember that his parents were acting in his best interests. Once Oscar dropped the C word, however, her demeanor shifted. The cancer survivor tried to give him some hope… but, still operating from a mother’s point of view, suggested counseling instead of her services.
Kristina Lashes Out!
When Alexis visited Kristina, she was clearly desperate to connect with her
daughter. Grahn played the scene with a genuine awkwardness as Alexis revealed that she’d found a lead on a job — one Kristina hadn’t asked her to find and wasn’t a fit for — and then let slip a Parkerrelated insult. Stunned by her gaffe, Alexis immediately tried to backtrack. And when Kristina lit into her, Alexis didn’t even defend herself. Her head bowed, she muttered to herself, let her daughter storm off, then checked back into therapy!
After Grahn had a bit of fun with Jon Lindstrom (Kevin/Ryan), she let her character ramble — giving equal weight to the logic of her efforts with Kristina and the fact that she’d been meddling. “Unpack that!” she challenged.
Then Ryan (as Kevin) mentioned Mikkos, and Grahn took her character on a journey. Though Alexis jumped to say her father never paid her any mind, she slowly talked herself around to the truth: He’d controlled her brothers, just as Kristina might say she was doing now! And with a bit more thought, she recognized that he had indeed controlled her by forcing her to give up her baby… when she was Oscar’s age. It was as if we could see it coming together before Alexis’ eyes — so much so that “Kevin” asked where she went! By the time Alexis stood up, she was discussing her new client. Somewhere between the personal and professional, she realized how she could help Oscar.
An Oscar Win!
With her own family drama pushed aside, Alexis went into attorney mode, tracking the kid down at Charlie’s and explaining that she’d help him win the right to make his own decision by getting him emancipated. Considering who she’d be going up against, we had a feeling this would get personal for Alexis again… but Grahn seemed more than ready for the battle ahead!
