Don’t Count This Emmy Winner Out Yet!

ABC Soaps In Depth - - News -

The In Depth Story: Back when Lanier decided not to continue on as a GH contract player, Nelle’s reign of manipulation and gaslighting came to a crashing end. Janelle accidentally confessed her sins on tape, and after secretly handing her and Michael’s baby to Brad, was finally arrested. When Lanier popped back in for her character’s sentencing last month, Nelle promised to behave in order to land an early release.

“Nelle always thinks she’s in control,” Lanier once told Soaps In Depth with a chuckle. And while we doubt her scheming character is cut out for good behavior, that doesn’t mean Nelle or Lanier is done with Port Charles! With past stints on ARMY WIVES and KINGDOM, the Daytime Emmy winner is focused on landing more primetime and big-screen roles, but following last month’s quick hit, Lanier tweeted she “was happy to pop back in for a minute.”

Word is that Lanier is open to causing more trouble whenever it fits her schedule — which is why viewers got excited by a recent Twitter exchange between the actress and Tamara Braun (Kim). After Braun tweeted about an epic day of production at GH — which saw the cast and crew shoot 82 scenes and bring over 140 script pages to life — Lanier responded, “And she took the time to run lines with me for an audition. You’re a queen!” Fans assumed Lanier was on set with Braun — which is, of course, possible. But of course, Braun may have tapped in to help Lanier via phone.

Whatever the case, GH confirms that we should never count out Nelle! And for the record, when the troublemaker does pop up, Lanier is always game to play dirty. “As horrible as Nelle can be, my job as an actress is to not judge the character and play it as honestly as possible,” she previously told In Depth. “Humans are incredibly complex, disgusting, beautiful, tormented beings. I try to bring a level of humanity to the role.

Nelle’s done some really terrible things,” she added, “but at the same time, there might be people who feel bad for her. It’s left up to the audience.”

Post-Port Charles, Lanier is hitting theaudition circuit… but isn’t opposed toanother GH visit!

Nelle’s sentencing hearing didn’t quite go the way she had hoped, but Chase, Carly and Michael would be foolish to think that that was the last they’d hear of the schemer!
