THE VENUS EXPRESS spacecraft plummeted into its target planet’s atmosphere at the end of 2014, but data from the eight-year European Space Agency mission is still revealing new things. Scientists announced in June that thermal maps show localized brightnesses in four “hotspots” around tectonic rift zones. The mission team believes this finding is the best evidence yet of active volcanoes on Venus.
