Al­bany shoot­ing vic­tim is in crit­i­cal con­di­tion

Po­lice in­ves­ti­gate af­ter a 22-yearold man was shot in the head while in his car, an­other in­ci­dent in Al­bany’s vi­o­lent year.

A 22-year-old man was in crit­i­cal con­di­tion Fri­day af­ter be­ing shot in the head while he in a parked car just blocks from the gov­er­nor’s man­sion, po­lice said.

The man is the 51st per­son in­jured or killed by a shoot­ing in the city in a year, be­tween Nov. 2017 and Nov. 2018, based on Al­bany po­lice sta­tis­tics by Al­bany po­lice.

The man was wounded when some­one opened fire on the car at about 11:40 p.m. Thurs­day near Park Av­enue and Philip Street, an in­ter­sec­tion in the Man­sion District within blocks of the Ex­ec­u­tive Man­sion. It is also less than a block away from Bishop Maginn High School. No ar­rests have been made. Po­lice spokesman Steve Smith said the vic­tim was in a car when shot at least once. He suf­fered se­ri­ous in­juries and was be­ing treated at Al­bany Med­i­cal Cen­ter Hos­pi­tal.

“Right now, we’re just try­ing to put the pieces to­gether and con­tinue our in­ves­ti­ga­tion,” Smith said.

In 2018 there have been 39 peo­ple in­jured or killed by shoot­ings in Al­bany. In 2017 there were 45 and in 2016 there were 32 peo­ple.
