The journalist, 56, kicks off the second season of her nationally syndicated talk show, Katie, tomorrow.
Has any aspect of hosting the show surprised you? The live studio audience is amazing—you feel their energy instead of imagining it. But during the commercial breaks I feel like I need to keep them entertained! Who would you like to interview this season? I enjoy talking to George Clooney; I hope he can join us. We couldn’t nab him last year. My other dream guests are Hillary Clinton, Angelina Jolie, Beyoncé, Colin Firth, and the women who were kidnapped in Cleveland. What’s one big pinch-yourself moment from your career? Meeting the queen at Buckingham Palace and sitting down with Prince William and Prince Harry was very cool. When William said, “I think Kate’s in the other room,” I almost had a heart attack!
Does it bother you that everyone is so interested in your love life? I actually think it’s sweet. People know I was widowed at a fairly young age with two small kids, and they’re hopeless romantics. I hope it’s because they want to see me find my soul mate for the second time and want me to be happy.
