I love Kate McKinnon on Saturday Night Live. Will she be the show’s next breakout star?
A: She already is! The Sea Cliff, N.Y., native, 32, has made five movies this year: You heard her voice if you saw The Angry Birds Movie and Finding Dory, and she was one of the highlights of Ghostbusters. Watch for her in Masterminds (Sept. 30) and Office Christmas Party (Dec. 9). She’s nominated for an Emmy (Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series) for SNL, returning to NBC Oct. 1, on which she’s delighted audiences impersonating Hillary Clinton, Justin Bieber, Ruth Bader Ginsberg and others. “It’s just the greatest job in the world,” she says.
With Kevin James’ success in movies like Paul Blart: Mall Cop, why did he want to do another TV series?
A: James, 51, had such a good experience on The King of Queens, he was ready to do it again—especially when he found out that Kevin Can Wait, premiering Sept. 19 on CBS, about a retired cop who becomes a stay-athome dad, would be a family comedy. “It’s important for me to do a show that you can watch with your kids and have a good time,” he says.
