The book chron­i­cles the life of in­flu­en­tial cook­book au­thor Paula Wolfert, cred­ited by many with in­tro­duc­ing Mediter­ranean fare to Amer­i­can cooks. (If there’s a box of cous­cous in your pantry, thank her.) When Wolfert, 79, was di­ag­nosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2013, she dove into the lat­est re­search so she could be sure to in­clude brain-boost­ing foods in her diet and elim­i­nate any po­ten­tial brain busters, such as re­fined car­bo­hy­drates and added sugar.
