Rogers puts up big yards, interceptions
The host Trojans race to a 31-0 halftime lead in sending NMSU to lopsided defeat
TROY, Ala. — Tyler Rogers tied a career-high in passing yards, but he threw five interceptions and New Mexico State dropped a 52-6 decision to Troy on Saturday night in a Sun Belt Conference opener.
Rogers completed 29-of-54 passes for 445 yards and one touchdown. He connected with Izaiah Lottie on five passes for 71 yards and the lone Aggie score, which did not come until late in the third quarter and Troy leading 45-0.
NMSU (1-3) compiled 539 yards of total offense.
Troy’s Demetrius Cain returned a blocked punt 15 yards for a touchdown that gave the Trojans (3-1) a 21-0 lead midway through the second quarter.
Dalton Herrington led the Aggie defense with 13 tackles, while Tymon Locklin chipped in eight tackles. Jared Phipps and Rodney Bulter each had six tackles.
Troy was led by Brandon Silvers who completed 23-of32 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Chunn led the Trojan rushing efforts with 64 yards.
The Aggies take the field again next Saturday as they return to Aggie Memorial Stadium for homecoming against UL-Lafayette.
