Freeland leads Rockies; Puig homers for Dodgers

DENVER — Kyle Freeland pitched six solid innings and shook off a liner off his pitching arm, and Tony Wolters drove in two runs as the Colorado Rockies beat the San Francisco Giants again, 5-1 on Saturday.

The Rockies are 9-1 against San Francisco this season and have won the last eight against the Giants. Colorado had 14 hits but only one for extra bases, a double by pinchhitte­r Pat Valaika in the seventh inning.

Freeland (8-4) wasn’t as sharp as his seven shutout innings against San Francisco on April 23 but he held the Giants to one run and eight hits despite pitching in traffic in every inning. The rookie right-hander left with a 2-1 lead and pumped his fist after striking out pinch-hitter Brandon Belt to end the sixth with a runner on second.

DODGERS 10, REDS 2: In Cincinnati, Yasiel Puig hit two of the Dodgers’ four homers, powering Los Angeles over the Reds.

LA’s Cody Bellinger had three hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs. Joc Pederson also homered.

INDIANS 9-6, TWINS 3-2: In Minneapoli­s, Lonnie Chisenhall hit two home runs for Cleveland in the second game of a day-night doublehead­er after Jose Ramirez went deep twice in the opener as the Indians took over first place from Minnesota in the AL Central by sweeping the Twins.

Austin Jackson hit a solo shot in the nightcap against Twins starter Adalberto Mejia (1-3) in the fourth inning, before Chisenhall homered to put the Indians in front. Following a 75-minute rain delay, Chisenhall crushed a three-run drive against Tyler Duffey for his 10th home run of the season and a 5-1 lead in the fifth.

ASTROS 7, RED SOX 1: In Houston, Jose Altuve hit a solo homer, and Carlos Beltran had a two-run shot and three RBIs as Houston beat Boston.

Altuve led off the third with his homer and Beltran followed three batters later with his ninth of the season to put Houston ahead 6-0.

DIAMONDBAC­KS 5, PHILLIES 1: In Philadelph­ia, Paul Goldschmid­t hit a two-run double and also made a key catch, boosting Arizona to its sixth straight victory.

The Diamondbac­ks improved to 43-26, matching the best 69-game start in team history.

BRAVES 8, MARLINS 7 (10): In Atlanta, Brandon Phillips drove in the winning run with in the bottom of the 10th inning and Matt Adams had four RBIs as the Braves rallied from a four-run deficit to beat Miami.

NATIONALS 7, METS 4: In New York, Trea Turner hit a leadoff homer and Washington backed Stephen Strasburg with three long balls in beating the Mets.

PADRES 7, BREWERS 5 (11): In Milwaukee, Cory Spangenber­g and Chase d’Arnaud each hit homers in the 11th for San Diego.

ORIOLES 15, CARDINALS 7: In Baltimore, Jonathan Schoop homered twice and drove

in four runs, and Manny Machado went deep in a seven-run second inning against Adam Wainwright as the Orioles beat the Cardinals.

ATHLETICS 5, YANKEES 2: In Oakland, Calif., Ryon Healy went deep twice for his third multihomer game in two weeks and Matt Joyce also hit a long ball as the Athletics beat the Yankees for their third straight victory in the series.

RAYS 3, TIGERS 2: In Detroit, Chris Archer pitched six strong innings, and Daniel Robertson drove in two runs and scored a third as Tampa Bay bounced back to beat the Tigers.

WHITE SOX 5, BLUE JAYS 2: In Toronto, Todd Frazier and Matt Davidson hit consecutiv­e home runs to lead the White Sox over the Blue Jays.

PIRATES 4, CUBS 3: In Pittsburgh, Gregory Polanco broke out of a slump with a tworun homer and Andrew McCutchen hit his 12th home run of the season as Pittsburgh edged Chicago.

ANGELS 9, ROYALS 0 : In Anaheim, Calif., Albert Pujols, Cameron Maybin and Luis Valbuena each homered and Alex Meyer dominated for six innings, helping Los Angeles beat Kansas City and snapping the Royals’ six-game winning streak.

RANGERS 10, MARINERS 4: In Arlington, Texas, Mike Napoli hit two home runs, connecting along with Rougned Odor and ShinSoo Choo in the sixth inning to power Texas.
