Sandia to detonate explosives today

Sandia National Laboratories plans to conduct a controlled explosives test today between noon and 5 p.m. on the south side of Sandia’s testing area on Kirtland Air Force Base.

Residents may well hear an explosion associated with the experiment and see black smoke and dust for a short time following the test, Sandia said in a news release.

The test is being conducted in accordance with permits for Sandia’s test facilities and in compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, Sandia said.

Test dates and times are subject to change based on weather conditions.
