Leo Hosen­feld, born in Rochester, NY on Jan­uary 13, 1935, passed away at home with fam­ily in Al­bu­querque,

NM on Mon­day, Septem­ber 4, 2017. He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Leo

G. and Gertrude Hosen­feld; and by his sis­ter and brother-in-law, Molly and Dave Cur­tain. Leo is sur­vived by his wife, Bar­bara; son, Pete; son and daugh­ter-in-law, Mark and Anika; grand­daugh­ter, Elsa; sis­ter, Bar­bara Clay of Wolfs­bor­ough, NH; and many nieces and neph­ews.

Leo was a grad­u­ate and ROTC mem­ber of Syra­cuse Univer­sity (1957) and went to Grad­u­ate School at the Univer­sity of New Mex­ico (1972). He was a Santa Fe Pub­lic School His­tory teacher. Leo re­tired from the Fed­eral Bureau of Land Man­age­ment af­ter 22 years. He was also a very tal­ented handy­man and con­trac­tor for over 40 years.

Leo was a Char­ter Mem­ber of the Hondo Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment in Santa Fe; helped build Sta­tion One in 1975 and as­sisted with the con­struc­tion of Sta­tion Two in 1986. He was es­pe­cially proud to serve for 29 years with Habi­tat for Hu­man­ity in Santa Fe, where he was Team Cap­tain for Los Alamos, Es­panola, and Al­bu­querque. For Habi­tat in Al­bu­querque he was as an orig­i­nal mem­ber of the Al­bu­querque SWAT since 2003, which was unique to Al­bu­querque. He helped set up the first Al­bu­querque Re­store on San Ma­teo Street, worked on dozens of homes, and was a mem­ber of the build­ing com­mit­tee right up un­til 2016. As part of In­ter­na­tional Habi­tat for Hu­man­ity he was a mem­ber of the "39 Ami­gos" build­ing homes in Gu­atemala.
