New­som, Rose Marie

Rose Marie New­som, our beloved wife, mother, grand­mother and great-grand­mother passed away peace­fully on Au­gust 31, 2017 at the age of 84. Rosie was born on Oc­to­ber 2, 1932 in San An­to­nio, TX to Mar­guerite Neill and Joseph Terry. She met the love of her life, Max New­som, at the age of 13, while in Ju­nior High School. Rosie and Max at­tended Edi­son High School, and mar­ried on June 5, 1951. They moved to Al­bu­querque, NM in May of 1956, where they raised their 4 chil­dren & lived for 40 years be­fore re­tir­ing in the San An­to­nio area.

Rosie was an ac­com­plished seam­stress, artist and quil­ter. While liv­ing in Al­bu­querque she was a mem­ber of Yucca Gallery, part owner and artist in Tum­ble­weed Gallery and was se­lected as a mem­ber into the Na­tional League of Amer­i­can Pen Women. When she re­turned to Texas, she was a mem­ber of the Uni­ver­sal Quil­ters Guild in Uni­ver­sal City, and was the So­cial Chair­man at Scenic Hills in Schertz, TX for sev­eral terms. She loved to sew, paint, gar­den & travel. Her fun lov­ing per­son­al­ity, love of life and stead­fast de­vo­tion to the peo­ple that she loved will al­ways be re­mem­bered.

Rosie was pre­ceded in death by her lov­ing hus­band of 52 years, Max New­som.

She is sur­vived by daugh­ter Terri New­som and hus­band Mike An­der­son, daugh­ter Cherri Porter and hus­band Al, son Mike New­som and wife Cathy, and son Tom New­som and wife Teri; 8 grand­chil­dren and 4 great-grand­chil­dren.

A cel­e­bra­tion of life will be held at 10:30 am on Septem­ber 23 at Emerald Oaks Re­tire­ment Com­mu­nity, 20302 Bul­verde Road, San An­to­nio, TX 78259. In lieu of flow­ers do­na­tions can be made in Rosie’s name to the Port Aransas Hur­ri­cane Har­vey Com­mu­nity Re­lief Fund:
