Lobo duo earns aca­demic A-A honor

AUSTIN, Texas — Uni­ver­sity of New Mex­ico men’s soccer play­ers Ja­son Beaulieu and Si­mon Span­gen­berg were named to the Col­lege Sports In­for­ma­tion Di­rec­tors of Amer­ica (CoSIDA) aca­demic All-Amer­ica team on Thurs­day.

Beaulieu, a se­nior with a 3.99 grade-point av­er­age in civil en­gi­neer­ing, and Span­gen­berg, a ju­nior with a 4.19 in pre­me­chan­i­cal en­gi­neer­ing, are the 21st and 22nd Lo­bos in pro­gram his­tory to earn the award. New Mex­ico has the most men’s soccer CoSIDA Al­lAmer­i­cans of any school in the coun­try re­gard­less of di­vi­sion.

Stu­dent-ath­letes must have over a 3.2 grade-point av­er­age, be at least a sopho­more in aca­demic stand­ing and be a sig­nif­i­cant con­trib­u­tor on the field.

“Lobo soccer is about ex­cel­lence in the class­room, in the com­mu­nity and on the play­ing field,” coach Jeremy Fish­bein said. “Ja­son and Si­mon truly ex­em­plify ev­ery­thing we stand for as Lo­bos and I am re­ally ex­cited for both of them. They have ex­tremely bright fu­tures.”
