Publisher admits tax evasion attempt

SANTA FE — A Santa Fe magazine publisher who owes the state more than $100,000 in unpaid gross receipts tax has pleaded guilty to attempted tax evasion.

Trend magazine publisher Cynthia Canyon pleaded guilty on Monday to five felony counts of attempting to evade taxes.

Canyon is expected to serve five years of supervised probation and pay restitutio­n as part of a plea deal.

According the agreement, if Canyon violates probation she could be sent to jail for the remaining term of the probation. If she completes probation without violating, she will receive a conditiona­l discharge.
