INHABITING THE WORLD, INHABITING ART
The Magic World is the title of the project by the curator Cecilia Alemani for the Italian Pavilion presenting works by Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Roberto Cuoghi, and Adelita Husni-bey.
The Magic World takes inspiration from the book of the same title by the Neapolitan anthropologist Ernesto de Martino (1908-65), published just after the Second World War and dedicated to the study of magic as an instrument through which various cultures and populations react to situations of crisis and to the incapacity of understanding and giving form to the world. The three artists invited share the same fascination for magic, and the have all, in their own way, had similar formative experiences. They were all born in Italy between the 70s and 80s and emerged on the national and international artistic scenes at the beginning of the new millennium. They are part of the first Italian generations who grew up in a cosmopolitan and international reality: their works and languages are part of a global dialogue, even if intimately connected to the culture of their home country.
