Put Down the Controller

A new study showed that lack of sleep in teens is associated with weight gain over the long term. More than 3,300 participants showed an increase of about 2 points on the BMI scale per extra hour they stayed awake, over a period of 6 years. However, the study did not show a cause and effect relationship—only an association—between BMI and amount of sleep, so teens out to cram as many hours of videogames per day as possible may still have hope. Still, it’s best to play it safe and get more than 9 hours of sleep per day. Source: Sleep
