This is still an open ques­tion with the an­swer based on pol­i­tics. It will de­pend on whether a na­tional grass­roots re­sponse to the in­creas­ingly un­fair and dys­func­tional health­care sys­tem we have to­day can over­come the eco­nomic and po­lit­i­cal power of the many cor­po­rate stake­hold­ers in our med­i­cal-in­dus­trial com­plex. As health­care pro­fes­sion­als, we will all find clin­i­cal prac­tice more sat­is­fy­ing and our pa­tients hap­pier and health­ier if we can achieve uni­ver­sal cov­er­age, as pro­posed by Teddy Roo­sevelt in 1912, for the first time in more than 100 years.
