PLEIN AIR PAINTERS OF THE SOUTHEAST’S 2018 PAINT OUT
Plein Air Painters of the Southeast’s 2018 Paint Out returns to Leiper’s Creek Gallery.
The natural beauty of the Southeastern United States is on full view in the plein air works created by members of the Plein Air Painters of the Southeast. From coastal marshes and barrier islands to farmlands and forests, the terrain found in these lands is captivating and has long served as inspiration. Each year, the organization hosts its Paint Out where members of the juried group paint a particular region and then sell their works.
For 2018, the Paint Out returns to Leiper’s Creek Gallery in Franklin, Tennessee, from September 10 to 15, with the sale happening September 14 and 15 at the gallery from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Also, on September 15, select members of PAP-SE will hold painting demonstrations on the grounds of the gallery.
Leiper’s Creek Gallery owner Lisa Fox says, “This exceptional group of painters brings such energy and excitement to our village! Seeing them all set up and painting with colorful umbrellas all over town is a sight to behold. When it comes time for the sale, people are eagerly awaiting to make their choices.”
The highlight of the Paint Out is the chance for attendees to interact firsthand with the participating artists, asking them questions about their technique and inspirations. They can watch them paint in plein air throughout the run of the show, as well as purchase works that have just been created.
Dee Beard Dean, who along with a handful of artists founded the group in 2001, says, “Looking back, how proud I am of this association of distinguished painters, whose level of excellence has made this group one of the top plein air organizations in the country. From its inception, PAP-SE has maintained high standards of excellence, which has brought it national recognition.”
Along with Dean, artists including Beverly Ford Evans, Anne Blair Brown, Perry Austin, Jason Saunders, Roger
Dale Brown, Candy Day, Scott Boyle, Kathie Odom, Jim Carson, Paula Holtzclaw and Mary Garrish, will participate in this year’s show.
There also is the chance for art students to receive one-on-one instruction from a PAP-SE artist during the week of festivities. This year, artists Jane Chapin, David Boyd, Natalia Andreeva, Bill Farnsworth, Mary O. Smith, Dawn Whitelaw, Andre Lucero, Chad Smith, Richard Oversmith, Pam Padgett and Dean will offer morning, afternoon or all-day sessions where students will paint what their mentor is painting.
