Bruno Surdo: Free­dom

In his new­est ex­hi­bi­tion, Lib­er­a­tion, at Gallery Vic­tor Ar­men­dariz, Chicago-based artist Bruno Surdo will present 17 paint­ings that “ex­plore per­sonal yearn­ing for spir­i­tual and in­di­vid­ual in­de­pen­dence us­ing var­i­ous mo­tifs and sub­ject mat­ter.” He de­rives themes and ref­er­ences from mythol­ogy, lit­er­a­ture, folk­lore and Jun­gian archetypes that rep­re­sent male and fe­male sex­u­al­ity. Among the new works in the show, which hangs through Oc­to­ber 25, is the mon­u­men­tal paint­ing Free­dom de­pict­ing women at var­i­ous mo­ments in their lives along with sym­bolic ob­jects.
