During the summer of 1917, inspired by the writing of Carl Jung, Charles E. Burchfield began recording “childhood impressions” in a dream journal.throughout his career, Burchfield recorded more than 100 dreams in his journal alongside thousands of doodles, saying that some of his most useful abstract motifs came from the practice.the exhibition Suddenly I Awoke:the Dream Journals of Charles
E. Burchfield at Burchfield Penney Art Center pairs drawings and paintings by Burchfield with transcriptions from his dream journals, and will be on view through July 29.
