Dur­ing the sum­mer of 1917, in­spired by the writ­ing of Carl Jung, Charles E. Burch­field be­gan record­ing “child­hood im­pres­sions” in a dream jour­nal.through­out his ca­reer, Burch­field recorded more than 100 dreams in his jour­nal along­side thou­sands of doo­dles, say­ing that some of his most use­ful ab­stract mo­tifs came from the prac­tice.the ex­hi­bi­tion Sud­denly I Awoke:the Dream Jour­nals of Charles

E. Burch­field at Burch­field Pen­ney Art Cen­ter pairs draw­ings and paint­ings by Burch­field with tran­scrip­tions from his dream jour­nals, and will be on view through July 29.
