MAY 16

Fine Art Auction

$1.34 million

A significant turnout of in-room buyers as well as strong internet bidding, helped push Dallas Auction Gallery’s May 16 Fine Art Auction to $1,337,250.The sale, which featured American and European offerings, drew not only a local crowd but also engagement from Europe, Asia and Mexico.the top lot of the day was Austrian artist Eugene von Blaas’ The Flower Seller (est. $70/90,000), which sold for $312,500.

Artwork by 20th-century painters George Rodrigue, Nell Blaine and Woodrow Blagg were notable. Blagg’s painting Three Jacks (est. $10/20,000) became a new auction record for the artist at $23,750.Another record set was for Nell Blaine, whose The Green Tablecloth (est. $5/7,000), sold for more than five times its low estimate at $27,500. A winter scene by Guy C. Wiggins titled 5th Avenue Storm also caught the eye of bidders. The work, which was painted around 1950, sold just above it $30,000 high estimate at $31,250.
