Fine Art Auctions hosted its 2018 Sporting Sale to much fanfare for its decoy and fine art offerings.the sale, which was 96 percent sold by lot, yielded a robust $5.2 million. During the sale, more than a dozen world records were achieved for artist or decoy makers, with eight of the decoys hitting six-figure prices.topping the sale, and the decoy category, was the Earnest-gregory Dovetailed Goose from the collection of Donal C. O’brien Jr., which sold above its high estimate for a price of $810,000 after active phone bidding.
In the painting category the 1895 painting Coming In, by Arthur B. Frost, achieved $48,000 against a presale estimate of $30,000 to $50,000, while another by the artist titled Trout Fishing (est. $6/9,000) went above its estimate at $9,600.Aiden Lassell Ripley’s watercolor Setting Out was bought for its high estimate of $30,000, while Lynn Bogue Hunt’s On Point sold for its low estimate of $18,000.
