Fine Art Auc­tions hosted its 2018 Sport­ing Sale to much fan­fare for its de­coy and fine art of­fer­ings.the sale, which was 96 per­cent sold by lot, yielded a ro­bust $5.2 mil­lion. Dur­ing the sale, more than a dozen world records were achieved for artist or de­coy mak­ers, with eight of the de­coys hit­ting six-fig­ure­ping the sale, and the de­coy cat­e­gory, was the Earnest-gregory Dove­tailed Goose from the col­lec­tion of Donal C. O’brien Jr., which sold above its high es­ti­mate for a price of $810,000 af­ter ac­tive phone bid­ding.

In the painting cat­e­gory the 1895 painting Com­ing In, by Arthur B. Frost, achieved $48,000 against a pre­sale es­ti­mate of $30,000 to $50,000, while an­other by the artist ti­tled Trout Fish­ing (est. $6/9,000) went above its es­ti­mate at $9,600.Ai­den Las­sell Ri­p­ley’s wa­ter­color Set­ting Out was bought for its high es­ti­mate of $30,000, while Lynn Bogue Hunt’s On Point sold for its low es­ti­mate of $18,000.
