Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain: The Complete Series [Warner, $19.98]
Fans of the “Steven Spielberg Presents” school of TV animation have been waiting for this. The short-lived mash up series, which teamed the lovable lab rodents originating in Animaniacs segments with Tiny Toon Adventures’ animal-obsessed Elmyra, ran on The WB in the late ‘90s—although the last batch of its 13 two-part episodes were shuffled off to The Big Cartoonie Show in 1999.
Broadcast flubs aside, the Warner Bros./Amblin toon has retro appeal to some, and definitely benefits from the talent of toon veterans like writer-producer Tom Ruegger, directors Rob Davies and Nelson Recinos and the awesome voice cast. Since losing their ACME Lab headquarters, Pinky (Rob Paulsen) and The Brain (Maurice LaMarche) must plot world domination from the home of violently affectionate Elmyra (Cree Summer), trying to steer clear of her, neighborhood bully Roody (Nancy Cartwright) and a secret organization bent on kidnapping Brain.
