Vic­tory Arts Keeps It Short and Sweet

Ot­tawa company preps dis­tri­bu­tion ttawa-based Vic­tory Arts un­der­stands that short and sweet is the best way to both en­ter­tain and ed­u­cate kids.

That’s the idea be­hind Al­pha­bet Sto­ries, a se­ries of 26 90-sec­ond mixed-me­dia an­i­mated shorts tell a whim­si­cal story us­ing let­ters start­ing with one let­ter of the al­pha­bet.

Cre­ated by stu­dio pres­i­dent Tero Hollo, Al­pha­bet Sto­ries de­buts this fall on TVO, On­tario’s pub­lic ed­u­ca­tional net­work. Keep­ing the shows sim­ple, fun and true is the key, says Hollo, who worked with his 5-year-old daugh­ter, An­nika, to nar­rate each episode. The show is scored by award-win­ning com­poser, Serge Côté,

“My daugh­ter was learn­ing to read and to­gether we mapped out some key words and images that she felt were fun,” says Hollo. “Our cre­ative team at Vic­tory Arts took her thoughts and ex­panded on the cre­ative to make th­ese wild lit­tle sto­ries flow.”

The ex­pe­ri­enced an­i­ma­tors were in­spired by their child­hood fan­tasies of jumping into the ad­ven­tures they saw on-screen. And the show’s am­bi­tious de­sign is in­spired by ’50s an­i­ma­tion art.
