nother year comes to a close and it’s a good time to reflect on all the wonderful presents animation has brought to us this year. Year’s end sees a winding down on the featurefilm side of things, as most of the year’s top films have already been released to ensure eligibility for awards season. That gives us a chance to look at some exciting new TV projects, like our cover story on Disney TV Animation’s upcoming series Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero, as well as DreamWorks’ new Netflix offering All Hail King Julien and another upcoming Disney series, Miles from Tomorrowland.
On the visual effects side of things, we bid a bittersweet adieu to Peter Jackson’s take on J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. The final installment in Jackson’s epic pair of trilogies continues to push effects forward, and you can read all about in this issue. We also dig into a few surprise effects films: the musical adaptation of Into the Woods and the Oscar short-listed threequel Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.
