Sony’s an­i­ma­tion divi­sion en­tered the world of CG an­i­ma­tion with Open Sea­son, re­leased in 2006. Since then, the stu­dio has made a place for it­self in the world of fam­ily-ori­ented an­i­mated films with box of­fice suc­cesses like Cloudy with a Chance of Meat­balls (2009), The Smurfs (2011) and Ho­tel Tran­syl­va­nia (2012). Sony is de­vel­op­ing sev­eral of its prop­er­ties into chil­dren’s tele­vi­sion se­ries set to launch later in 2017, in­clud­ing Cloudy with a Chance of Meat­balls, slated to air on Boomerang; and Ho­tel Tran­syl­va­nia: The TV Se­ries, head­ing to Dis­ney Chan­nel. The Sony live-ac­tion prop­erty Ghost­busters also is be­ing de­vel­oped into a chil­dren’s an­i­mated se­ries, Ghost­busters: Ecto Force, which Sony Pic­tures An­i­ma­tion is prep­ping for a 2018 de­but.
