• Lion Brand Yarns Vanna’s Choice medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (31/2 oz/ 170 yds/100g per skein): 1 skein each #126 choco­late, #100 white, #145 egg­plant and #191 lilac

• Lion Brand 24/7 Cot­ton medium (worsted) weight cot­ton yarn (31/2 oz/186 yds/100g per ball): 1 ball #133 tan­ger­ine

• DMC em­broi­dery floss: 1 skein each #310 black and #972 ca­nary

• Sizes D/3/3.25mm and G/6/4mm cro­chet hooks

• Fiber­fill

• 2 black 9mm Darice solid eyes with plas­tic wash­ers

• Split ring stitch mark­ers

• Em­broi­dery nee­dle

Gauge

Gauge is not im­por­tant for this pro­ject. The goal is to cre­ate tight stitches to pre­vent the fiber­fill from show­ing or com­ing out.

Pat­tern Notes

Work in con­tin­u­ous rounds, do not join or turn work at end of each round. Mark first stitch of round.

Rnd 1: With size G hook and white, ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join (see Pat­tern Notes). (8 sc)

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (16 sc)

Rnd 3: [Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] around. (24 sc)

Rnd 4: [Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] around. (32 sc)

Rnds 5–9: Sc in each sc around.

Rnd 10: [Sc in each of next 2 sc, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sc] around. (24 sc)

Rnds 11 & 12: Sc in each sc around.

Rnd 13: [Sc in next sc, sc dec in next 2 sc] around. (16 sc)

In­sert safety eyes. They should be in­serted into rnd 10 with 7 sts be­tween them.

Us­ing straight stitch (see il­lus­tra­tion), em­broi­der mouth us­ing 3 strands of black em­broi­dery floss. The mouth should be cen­tered un­der the eyes.

The bot­tom of the mouth is worked into rnd 7. The sides are worked on a di­ag­o­nal into a stitch in the 8th round.

Fas­ten off and leave a tail for sewing. Sew closed and weave in yarn ends.

Rnd 1: With size G hook and egg­plant, ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook, place stitch marker. (8 sc)

Rnd 2: Sc in sc, 3 hdc in next sc, sc in each of next 3 sc, 3 hdc in next sc, sc in each of next 2 sc. (12 sts— 6 hdc and 6 sc)

Rnd 3: Sc in each of next 2 sts, 3 hdc in hdc, sc in each of next 5 sts, 3 hdc in hdc, sc in each of next 3 sts. (16 sts— 6 hdc and 10 sc)

Rnd 4: [Sc in each of next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (20 sc)

Rnd 5: Work into back lp (see Stitch Guide) only, sc in each sc around.

Rnd 6: Sc in each sc around. Change yarn color (see Stitch Guide) to lilac in last st.

Rnd 8: Sc in each sc around. Change yarn color to egg­plant.

Rnd 10: Ch 3 (counts as dc), [sc in cen­ter of next shell, shell in next sc] around, end­ing with 4 dc in beg st, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3, sl st into next sc.

Rnd 11: Ch 3, hdc in dc, sc in each of next 3 dc, hdc in next dc, [dc in next sc, hdc in next dc, sc in each of next 3 dc, hdc in next dc] around. Join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.

Rnd 12: Ch 1, sc in each st, join in first sc. Fas­ten off.

Em­bel­lish hat— us­ing all strands of the ca­nary em­broi­dery floss. Make 6 French knot stitches (see il­lus­tra­tion) across the front of the hat.

Scarf

Row 1: With size G hook and egg­plant, ch 56, change yarn color to lilac.

Row 2: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and the rem chs. Change to ca­nary em­broi­dery floss. (56 sc)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. Change yarn color to lilac.

Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc. Change yarn color to egg­plant.

Row 5: Sl st in each sc across.

Fas­ten off.

Add fringe to ends of scarf. Cut small pieces of yarn. Tie them to the ends of the scarf. Sep­a­rate them into strands.

Twig Arm

Make 2.

Row 1: With size G hook and choco­late, ch 9. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and the rem chs. (8 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across. Fas­ten off and leave a tail for sewing. Sew closed.

Row 3: Join yarn to the 4th st from the top. Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook and the rem chs, ch 1, turn.

Row 4: Sc in each sc across. Fas­ten off and leave a tail for sewing. Sew closed.

Tip: You can add ex­tra de­tail by weav­ing the yarn ends in af­ter you are done sewing the off­shoot closed and pulling the yarn end to give it some curve.

Fin­ish­ing or Assem­bly

Weave in yarn ends and trim as needed.

Body— sew closed and then sew to head.

Nose— sew to face.

Twig arms— sew 1 on each side of the body.

Hat— sew to head. The top of hat should be pushed slightly in. If ship­ping it as a gift, you might want to lightly stuff the top of hat to main­tain shape.

Scarf— tie around neck.
