Ma­te­ri­als

• 1 fat quar­ter each or­ange tonal (E1) and yel­low/or­ange print (E2)

• 1 fat quar­ter each 2 red tonals (B1 and B2)

• 1 fat quar­ter light green tonal (C)

• 1 fat quar­ter dark green tonal (D)

• 11/2 yards white print

• Bat­ting 46" x 53"

• Back­ing 46" x 53"

• Neu­tral-color all-pur­pose thread

• Ba­sic sewing tools and sup­plies

In­struc­tions Cut­ting

1. Cut (10) 21/2" x 51/2" E1 rect­an­gles or­ange tonal and (13) 21/2" x 51/2" E2 rect­an­gles yel­low/or­ange print.

2. Cut (10) 21/2" x 51/2" B1 rect­an­gles from one red tonal and (13) 21/2" x 51/2" B2 rect­an­gles from the se­cond red tonal.

3. Cut three 51/2" x 21" strips light green tonal; sub­cut strips into (23) 21/2" x 51/2" C rect­an­gles.

4. Cut three 51/2" x 21" strips dark green tonal; sub­cut strips into (23) 21/2" x 51/2" D rect­an­gles.

5. Cut two 31/2" by fab­ric width strips white print; sub­cut strips into (20) 31/2" A squares.

6. Cut one 51/2" by fab­ric width strip white print; sub­cut strip into eight 31/2" x 51/2" F rect­an­gles.

7. Cut two 51/2" x 281/2" G strips and two 51/2" x 211/2" H strips white print.

8. Cut five 21/4" by fab­ric width strips white print for bind­ing.

Com­plet­ing the Blocks

1. Stitch B2 to A, stop­ping stitch­ing 1" from the end of A to make a par­tial seam as shown in Fig­ure 1; press seam to­ward B.

2. Add C, D and then E1 to the sides of A as shown in Fig­ure 2; press seams away from A.

3. Com­plete the B-E seam as shown in Fig­ure 3 to com­plete one Spring Bright B2-E1 block; press seam to­ward B.

4. Re­peat steps 1–3 to com­plete six blocks each with B2-E1 and B2-E2, and four blocks each with B1-E1 and B1-E2.

Com­plet­ing the Quilt

1. Join two each B2-E1 and B2-E2 Spring Bright blocks to make an X row as shown in Fig­ure 4; press seams in one di­rec­tion. Re­peat to make three X rows.

2. Re­peat step 1 with two each B1E1 and B1-E2 Spring Bright blocks to make a Y row, again re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 4; press seams in the op­po­site di­rec­tion of the X rows. Re­peat to make two Y rows.

3. Join the rows to com­plete the pieced cen­ter re­fer­ring to the Place­ment Di­a­gram for po­si­tion­ing; press seams in one di­rec­tion.

4. Sew E2 to F to make an E2-F unit as shown in Fig­ure 5; press seam away from F. Re­peat to make two E2-F units.

5. Sew B1 to F and add C to com­plete a B1-C-F unit as shown in Fig­ure 6; press seams to­ward B1 and then C. Re­peat to make a se­cond B1-C-F unit.

6. Sew C to F to com­plete a C-F unit as shown in Fig­ure 7; press seam to­ward C.

7. Sew D to F and add E2 to make a D-E2-F unit as shown in Fig­ure 8; press seams to­ward D and E2.

8. Sew D to F to make a D-F unit as shown in Fig­ure 9; press seam to­ward D.

9. Sew an E2-F unit to one end and a B2 rec­tan­gle to the op­po­site end of one G strip to com­plete the G1 strip as shown in Fig­ure 10; press seam to­ward G.

10. Sew the G1 strip to the left side edge of the pieced cen­ter re­fer­ring to the Place­ment Di­a­gram for po­si­tion­ing; press seam to­ward the G strip.

11. Sew a D rec­tan­gle to one end and a C-F unit to the op­po­site end of the re­main­ing G strip to com­plete the G2 strip, again re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 10; press seams away from G.

12. Sew the G2 strip to the right side edge of the pieced cen­ter re­fer­ring to the Place­ment Di­a­gram for po­si­tion­ing; press seam to­ward the G strip.

13. Sew a B1-C-F to each end of H and add an F rec­tan­gle to the C end as shown in Fig­ure 11 to make the H1 strip; press seams to­ward H.

14. Sew the H1 strip to the top of the pieced cen­ter re­fer­ring to the Place­ment Di­a­gram for po­si­tion­ing; press seams to­ward the H strip.

15. Sew the E2-F unit and the D-F unit to one end and the D-E2-F unit to the op­po­site end of the re­main­ing H strip as shown in Fig­ure 12 to make the H2 strip; press seams to­ward H.

16. Sew the H2 strip to the bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter to com­plete the pieced top re­fer­ring to the Place­ment Di­a­gram for po­si­tion­ing; press seams to­ward the pieced H strip.
