• 16 each pre­cut light, dark and medium 21/2" x 42" strips (48 strips to­tal)

• 5⁄8 yard bind­ing fab­ric

• 3/4 yard bor­der fab­ric

• 35⁄8 yards back­ing

• Bat­ting 61" x 73"

• Thread

• Ba­sic sewing tools and sup­plies

Cut­ting From the bind­ing fab­ric:

• Cut 6 (21/4" by fab­ric width) strips for bind­ing.

• From bor­der fab­ric:

• Cut 6 (31/2" by fab­ric width) strips.

• Join and cut to make 2 bor­der strips each 31/2" x 591/4" and 31/2" x 531/2".

Com­plet­ing the Blocks

1. Se­lect one each light, medium and dark 21/2"-wide strip and join along length to make a strip set; press. Re­peat to make a to­tal of 16 dif­fer­ent strip sets.

2. Us­ing a ruler with a 45-de­greean­gle line, cut tri­an­gles from the strip sets re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 1. Note: You will get three tri­an­gles from one side of the strip and two from the other side.

3. Se­lect four dif­fer­ent-color tri­an­gles and join as shown in Fig­ure 2 to make one Yikes block. Re­peat to make 20 blocks.

4. If nec­es­sary, trim blocks to 121/4" square, keep­ing the cen­ter of the block cen­tered when trim­ming.

Com­plet­ing the Quilt

1. Re­fer­ring to the As­sem­bly Di­a­gram, ar­range and join blocks in five rows of four blocks each; press. Join the rows to com­plete the quilt cen­ter.

2. Sew the long bor­der strips to op­po­site sides and short bor­der strips to the top and bot­tom of the pieced cen­ter to com­plete the pieced top; press.

3. Cre­ate a quilt sand­wich re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 124.

4. Quilt as de­sired.

5. Bind re­fer­ring to Quilt­ing Ba­sics on page 124 to fin­ish.
