Com­mence­ment will be vir­tual

LAN­CASTER — An­te­lope Val­ley Col­lege will hold a vir­tual com­mence­ment at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 14 rather than an in-per­son event as orig­i­nally planned be­cause of ris­ing COVID-19 cases in the An­te­lope Val­ley, Los An­ge­les County and statewide.

“We re­al­ize that for some this is dis­ap­point­ing news and not ideal,” AV Col­lege Pres­i­dent Ed Knud­son wrote in a mes­sage to grad­u­ates posted on the col­lege’s web­site at “We were very much look­ing for­ward to cel­e­brat­ing your ac­com­plish­ments in per­son. How­ever, we know it is im­por­tant that we con­tinue to safely mark mile­stones in spe­cial ways.”

Grad­u­ates who plan to join the col­lege for the vir­tual com­mence­ment were asked to sub­mit their in­for­ma­tion to be in­cluded in the cer­e­mony no later than Aug. 7. They will need to log in us­ing AVC cre­den­tials. For de­tails, email stu­

Ad­min­is­tra­tors ex­pect to award more than 3,000 de­grees and cer­tifi­cates for the Class of 2020. Some stu­dents earned more than one de­gree or cer­tifi­cate.
