––––– ––––– BARBARA ANN DAVES CULLUM, 72, of North Little Rock passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015. She was a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene and was a bookkeeper at both Cash and Venable Lumber Companies for many years. Barbara grew up in Quitman, Ark., where she was an accomplish­ed basketball player for the Quitman Bulldogs. She was a Razorback fan and also enjoyed watching the NBA. She had an unwavering faith in God and lived that faith every day. Second only to God was her family, whom she valued above all else. She delighted in her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren and always put the needs of others before her own. She was thoughtful, generous and loving beyond measure, and had great compassion for all. She was truly an amazing person who touched many lives with her sweet spirit and intuitive ways.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mike Cullum of North Little Rock; mother, Mamie Daves; two sons, Tim New (Shannon) and Randy New (Lisa) all of Quitman; two daughters, Lisa Barker (Bruce) and Angela Palmer-Lett, both of North Little Rock; brother, Kenneth Daves (Brenda); and her grandchild­ren Jake Joseph, Trey New, Lindi New, Chance New, Kristin Grace Barker, Michael Palmer, Logan Lett, Tyler and Hayden Stovall, four great-grandchild­ren, and a host of many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Russell E. Daves.

––––– ––––– MARJORIE SHARPE DAVIS went to be with the Lord on Jan. 21, 2015. She was born March 10, 1926, in West Palm Beach, Fla., to Vastine and Mildred Sharpe. She grew up in the same city and graduated from W. Palm Beach High School. She met the love of her life (Warren “Dave” Davis) while working as a secretary in an office building occupied by the U.S. Army during WWII. Once married they moved to Mobile, Ala., England, Omaha, Neb., Tampa, Fla., Spain, and back to Tampa, where they lived the next 46 years. Marjorie and Dave moved to Little Rock five years ago, joined Immanuel Baptist Church, were members of Pairs and Squares Sunday School class, and moved to Chenal Fox Ridge two years ago.

She was the consummate wife of a USAF officer, moving her family from military base to base, making new friends, participat­ing in activities and providing leadership for the Officer’s Wives Clubs, entertaini­ng in her home, and playing bridge, darts and other games. She was always involved in church activities, served as the Sunday School Director at Bayshore Baptist Church (Tampa), and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross serving in military hospitals for over 50 years. She loved to travel, read, spend time with her family and friends, and watch football games. She also enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, hiking and swimming in the ocean. She had a flair for clothes, shoes and accessorie­s and was always dressed impeccably.

She will be remembered for her kindness and concern for others. She always put others first and was supportive regardless of the adversity. She was the perfect role model for wife, mother, grandmothe­r and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dorothye Vaughan. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Warren Davis; two children, Kathy Eisenach (Jeff) and Ken Davis (Bren), both of Little Rock; three grandchild­ren, Terri Davis Kelley, Wade Davis (Bekah) and Kyle Eisenach (Emily); eight grandchild­ren, Noah, Kaya and Jade Kelley, Hadlee Rodgers, Haven and Hayes Davis, Noah and Lily Eisenach; four nieces and four nephews.

––––– ––––– CHARLES MAYNARD HANSON, 83, of Little Rock passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015. He was born March 8, 1931.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie Hanson; stepmother, Denise Hanson; infant son, Paul Hanson; and brother, J. C. Hanson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Anne Hanson; son, Mike Hanson (Karen); daughters Lisa Mantle (Eric) and Lynn Enderlin; grandchild­ren Caroline Hugg, Charles Hanson, Elizabeth Hanson, Laura Hanson, Thomas Hanson, Ashley Enderlin, Stephen Enderlin, Elliot Enderlin and Clare Enderlin; two great-grandchild­ren, Madison and Charlotte Hugg; and two nieces, Denise Lipin and Janet Rossi.

A graduate of Little Rock Catholic High, he attended Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayettevil­le. He was a certified public accountant at Russell, Brown, and Company; Arthur Young; and retired with Ernst and Young. After retiring, he worked part-time at Arkansas State Employees Associatio­n and the Cathedral of St. Andrew.

He enjoyed vacationin­g with his family, fishing, hunting, golf and watching his grandchild­ren play sports. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and supported Pfeifer Camp. Charles was the recipient of the George F. Hixon Award for outstandin­g service.

The family wants to thank Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilita­tion, Gentiva Hospice, and North Metro Hospital of Jacksonvil­le for loving dad and our family. To dad’s dear friends who visited him regularly for over 5 years… thank you.

––––– ––––– ALVIN E. HICKS, 88, of Little Rock, Ark., entered the portals of Heaven on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015. He pastored Cloverdale Assembly of God church for 13 years.

He leaves behind two sons, Stanley E. Hicks, of Maumelle, Ark., and Stephen R. Hicks, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., one daughter, Sonja L. Hicks, of Dallas, Texas. He spent his final years at Briarwood Nursing and Rehab in Little Rock, Ark.

––––– ––––– MARGARET ANNETTE JACKSON, age 78, of Sherwood, passed away Jan. 22, 2015, in Sherwood. She was born June 30, 1936, in Bastrop, La., and she was the daughter of V.V. Stevens & Nona Lee Marsh. Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker who lived for her grandkids, she loved gardening, yard work and sewing many beautiful dresses, some of which were wedding dresses. She will be remembered as a loving person, who would always let you know what she was thinking.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Jackson, granddaugh­ter, Jamie D. Burch, a sister, Ann Burch, and her parents. Survivors include her children Charles Jackson (Vickie) and Terri Burch (James); grandchild­ren Camilia (Harold), Jamie (Matthew), Bethany (Tele), Janet (John), Sherry (Brandon), Mara (Cory), Jennifer (Taylor) Jacqueline (Michael) and Michelle; great-grandchild­ren Lili, Meylin, Jillian, Ada, Naha, Evelyn and Jaelyn; a brother, Robert (Jo), and a sister, Joy (Rickey); and two special nephews, John and Jason, and a host of nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

KATCHUR of Sherwood, our beloved mother, was born to her earthly life in Carteret, N.J., on Dec. 2, 1922, and born again to her spiritual life in 1992, putting on Christ in baptism at Rose City Church of Christ, North Little Rock, Ark. After struggling with several physical ailments most of her adult and elderly life, the struggle and pain was left behind on Jan. 22, 2015, as she left this life for the better things promised by our holy and merciful God. A place where He will wipe away every tear from her eyes, there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things have passed away (Revelation 21:4).

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her father and mother, three brothers and one sister, all of New Jersey. She is survived by three sisters in New Jersey and one brother in Florida; three children, Nick Katchur, North Little Rock, Barbara Hull, Sherwood, and Richard Katchur, Mount Juliet, Tenn.; two grandsons, Richard Katchur, Cabot, and Howard Katchur, Conway; one granddaugh­ter, Paige Katchur, Lebanon, Tenn., and one great-granddaugh­ter, Anna Katchur, Conway.

––––– ––––– HAZEL LOIS (HIGHTOWER) MURRAY, 86, of Little Rock passed from this Earthly life into eternity on Jan. 20, 2015. She was born in Little Rock to the late Charles I. and Annie Rachel McGahan Hightower on June 6, 1928.

For 20-plus years Mrs. Murray worked at Little Rock First Church of the Nazarene where she was the custodian and in charge of the Resource Room and was a long-time member. She was a dedicated mother, homemaker and caretaker to her entire family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her loving husband of 64 years, Robert Hunter Murray; son, Baby Boy Murray in 1961; and two brothers, Neil and Melton Hightower. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Brenda (Scott) Prater of Paron and Carol (Dale “Hoss”) Partridge of Prairie Grove; grandchild­ren Phillip Hunter (Tabitha) Prater, Timothy Scott (Rachel) Prater and Kristina Lanette (Jason) Walsh; great-grandchild­ren Garrett Jarvis, Taylor Koder and AbbyGrace Prater; brother Larry (Linda) Hightower; sister, Jean (Alton) Bain; and many other friends and relatives who will miss her greatly.

ALEXANDER — Irene C. Marks, 96, of Alexander, flew into the arms of the Angels January 23, 2015. She was born November 20, 1918, in Cleburne County, living most of her younger years in the Good Springs Community. She was a member of the Good Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Irene was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis J. and Leota Cathey; her husband, Hubert H. Marks; brother, Lloyd Cathey; and sisters, Adell Dennis of Arizona and Odell of California.

Known to everyone as Granny, Irene was loved by everyone who met her, and her door was always open to anyone who wanted to visit. Granny worked the daily crossword puzzle and read her Bible daily throughout her life. She had a large garden every year, canning and freezing whatever she didn’t give away. Granny loved to crochet, and spent most every evening making afghans for family and friends. She was fiercely proud of her ninth grade education and her family. She took great delight in her great-grandchild­ren and great-great-grandchild­ren, and many of them have fond memories of her teasing them with the threat of being placed over her “checkered apron” if they misbehaved.

Survivors include her daughter, Patsy M. Sturch, and son, Henry Michael Marks, both of Alexander; grandchild­ren, Donna Renea Landreth of Bryant; Russell Sturch (Anita) of Benton; DeLane Besancon (Jeff) of Benton; eight great-grandchild­ren, Jaclyn Littles, Brandy Himes, Somer Kean, Lorie Bray, Kimberly Dunlap, Justin Sturch, Dakota Besancon, and Trent Besancon; eight great-great-grandchild­ren; one sister, Clive Bogard of Idaho.

––––– ––––– CABOT — W.E. Dean Cannon, age 77, of Cabot, passed away on January 22, 2015. He was born April 30, 1937, in Corinth, Miss., to the late Namon and Myrtle Cannon. Mr. Cannon was a retired United States Army Veteran who served during Vietnam. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, a Master Mason and a member of Jacinto Masonic Lodge #216 in Jacksonvil­le.

––––– ––––– PINE BLUFF — Reverend Thomas A. Krank, age 81, of Pine Bluff, died Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Mr. Krank was born in a log cabin August 31, 1933, in Eldon, Oklahoma, a triplet son of the late Hugh M. and Viola Spears Krank.

He was reared and received his early education in Eldon, Oklahoma and Little Rock, where he graduated from Central High School. He also enrolled at the Little Rock Missionary Baptist Seminary and graduated. Reverend Krank was a beloved father, friend, avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed playing the piano and singing gospel music He sang with the River City Boys and the Whiteville Quartet. He pastored many ABA Missionary Baptist Churches during his ministry of sixty two years, including the last church he pastored, the Line Creek Missionary Baptist Church of Ida, Louisiana, for seven years. He was also a contract painter in Pine Bluff for 25 years.

Mr. Krank was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Goldmon Lou Yarberry Krank; sons, Michael Dion and Timothy A. Krank; brothers, Hugh and Frank Krank; triplet sister, Margaret Elsie Krank, sisters, Gene Krank Taveria and Naomi Krank Walker. Survivors include his wife, Christine Funderburg Krank of 26 years; daughters, Pam Baggett (Les) of Sheridan and Kim Krank of Pine Bluff; son, Miles Krank of Magnolia; triplet sister, Alice Krank Perrette of Harrison, sister Patricia Krank Hulbert of Auburn, California and brother, Floyd Krank of Globe, Arizona; grandson, Derek Baggett; granddaugh­ter, Allison Michau; great-grandsons, Brenden, Ethen and Joshua Baggett, Aaron Reppond, Gavin and Garrett Michau. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but now is rejoicing with God in heaven.

––––– ––––– PINE BLUFF — Don Buford Smith, age 79, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Pearson Smith; his brother, Bruce Smith and wife Sunny, of Humble, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law David and Sina Smith of Houston, Texas; and his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Duke Wheeler of Colliervil­le, TN; grandchild­ren, Elizabeth and Patrick Wheeler, both of Colliervil­le, Tennessee; along with many nieces and nephews, and family friends.

Don was born on April 15, 1935 in Foreman, Arkansas, a son of the late Thomas Payton Smith and Dovie Matilda Green Smith. He graduated from Hooks High School in 1954 in Hooks, Texas, from Texarkana Junior College in Texarkana, Texas in 1956, and from the University of Texas in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in Microbiolo­gy.

Early in his career he worked at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas and the Collum and Carney Clinic in Texarkana. In 1961 he moved to Pine Bluff and accepted a position in the Safety Division at Pine Bluff Arsenal. After the transition into the National Center for Toxicologi­cal Research, Don was Lab Chief for the Virology Department. He retired in 1995 after 34 years of Federal service.

He served in the Army Reserves as a medic in the 489th Engineerin­g Battalion. Don loved music from an early age, and played the Sousaphone in the Hooks High School Marching Band. He was also a member of the Chancel Choir at Lakeside United Methodist Church.

Predeceasi­ng him in death are his brother, Thelmer Payton Smith of Huntsville, Alabama; and his sister, Allene Smith Harwell, of DeKalb, Texas.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2:30 p.m., at Lakeside Methodist Church in Pine Bluff. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.

––––– ––––– PINE BLUFF — Charlie “Coach” Vereen Sr., 65, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed away, Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born September 10, 1949, in DeWitt, to Carlisle Major Vereen, Sr. and Virginia Henderson Vereen.

He was reared and educated in Chesterfie­ld, South Carolina and graduated from Henderson State University.

He was a long time Head Coach at White Hall High School and a teacher. Coach was a member of Central Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the White Hall Police Auxiliary for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Stover Vereen, whom he married on July 14, 1986; sons, Chuck (Ashlea) Vereen of North Little Rock, Chris (Angela) Vereen of Hot Springs, Brock Stover of Pine Bluff; brothers, Corky Vereen of Daytona Beach, Florida, Johnny Vereen of DeWitt, Bill (Susan) Vereen of North Little Rock, Jim (Debbie) Vereen of Star City; five grandchild­ren, Mattie, McCoy, Gus, Jack and Kash.
