Arkansas’ Gorlei finishes 74th
University of Arkansas, Fayetteville sophomore Cara Gorlei finished with a 3-over 75 at the NCAA Championship at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., on Monday.
Gorlei, playing as an individual, shot a 236 (84-77-75) to finish 74th overall.
Gorlei moved up 11 spots in the final round, finishing with one birdie and four bogeys Monday. Challenging weather plagued the event, which was shortened from 72 to 54 holes after Saturday’s round was rained out.
Monday’s final round saw Gorlei open strong with a birdie on No. 2. It was the second time she birdied that hole and her fourth birdie of the tournament. She played 1-under through six holes but picked up a pair of bogeys before making the turn. Gorlei added two more bogeys on the back nine. Arkansas Tech men in 18th place Arkansas Tech University men’s team shot a 299 in the first round at the NCAA Division II Men’s Championship at the Reunion Resort in Kissimmee, Fla., on Monday.
The Wonder Boys are in 18th place. Barry leads with a 276 while West Florida (277) is second. Florida Tech (277), Florida Southern (280) and Newberry (282) round out the top five.
Individually, Austin Smith and junior Putter Srinoon led the Wonder Boys by shooting a 74 (+4) for a tie for 57th. Smith shot 34 (-1) on the front nine while Srinoon shot 34 (-1) on the back nine.
Freshman Jonathan Echberg closed out his round with a 75 (+5) to finish in a tie for 68th.
Junior Luke Cornett rounded out the scoring for the Wonder Boys with a 76 (+6) to finish the round in a tie for 78th.
The second round is scheduled for today.
