Free-speech fracas

Sketch comedy company The Main Thing (Vicki Farrell, Steve Farrell and Brett Ihler) stages The Pervert & The Pentecosta­l at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday through Sept. 1 at The Joint, 301 Main St. in North Little Rock’s Argenta Arts District.

The original two-act comedy centers on Arkansas’ “most planned, planned community,” home to a popular televangel­ist who engages in a First Amendment battle with an offensive hip-hop artist.

Platters in Harrison

The “Golden Sounds of the Platters” show, 7 p.m. Friday at the Lyric Theatre, 113 W. Rush Ave., Harrison, under the auspices of the Ozark Arts Council, is a fundraiser for the Boone County Heritage Museum. James White will be the opening act.
