Personal space

- — Cary Jenkins

Where I live: My husband, Brian, and I live in the Lakewood community of North Little Rock with our daughter, Madelyn, 7, and son, Hudson, 4.

Occupation: In October, I took on the role of executive director at Economics Arkansas. Economics Arkansas is a statewide nonprofit that works to equip prekindergarten-12 schools with standards-based resources and professional development to teach economics and personal finance.

My favorite space is: the living room/kitchen area in our 1950s house. This spot is the hub for our family. About 90 percent of our awake time at home is spent together in this same area whether it is my kids sitting at the bar while I cook, playing together on the floor, or cuddled up for movie night on the couch, we are often together and in this same little area.

Why?: I love that this space offers a great unobstructed view outside. Since our house is built on a hill, there’s no development behind us, so even though we are right in the heart of Lakewood, I can be in this room and feel like we are in the middle of nowhere.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Since this space overlooks our patio, we have talked about ways to make that space more of an extension of our style preferences on the inside. We would love to do a complete patio overhaul, including replacing the railing and staining the concrete.
