Al­bert "Prodigy" John­son of Mobb Deep passed away from his life­long bat­tle with Sickle Cell Ane­mia Blood Disor­der last year and this six-part pocast se­ries from WNYC Stu­dios delves into how he got into the mu­sic in­dus­try, his tal­ent, his fight for his health and the peo­ple that loved him that sup­ported him pro­fes­sion­ally as well as keep­ing him well.

Through­out the pod­cast, you hear from Prodigy as well as his brother, for­mer doc­tors, Big Twin­sand Rox­anne Shante. Through his sick­nes, this dis­ease also shaped how he lived, his thoughts on life and even­tu­ally it left him to rap and many times he bat­tled the dis­ease in or­der to per­form.

Al­though he was in and out of the hospi­tal to man­age the disor­der, Prodigy continued to tour in the last decade of his life de­spite feel­ing his bones were break­ing and that he was on fire. The show takes you on his tours and shows how he nav­i­gated hip hop and had a se­ries of peo­ple in his life that sup­ported him in liv­ing his dream up to his last per­for­mance which would even­tu­ally be­gin his fi­nal hospi­tal stay in Las Ve­gas.
