The city of San Mar­cos and Bob­cat Blend, a stu­dent-run com­post­ing or­ga­ni­za­tion at Texas State Univer­sity, has opened regis­tra­tion for a Master Com­poster cer­ti­fi­ca­tion pro­gram.

The classes will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, 6 and 8; and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4 and 11 at the San Mar­cos Dis­cov­ery Cen­ter, 430 River­side Drive.

The class will cost $20 to cover text­books and will re­quire 20 hours of total class­room time and 20 hours of vol­un­teer­ing within 12 months of class­room com­ple­tion.

Com­post­ing re­sults in a ma­te­rial that has the abil­ity to im­prove the chem­i­cal bal­ance, tex­ture and bi­o­log­i­cal char­ac­ter­is­tics of soils and pro­motes plant growth with the help of bac­te­ria, in­sects and worms.
