Become a Master Composter
The city of San Marcos and Bobcat Blend, a student-run composting organization at Texas State University, has opened registration for a Master Composter certification program.
The classes will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, 6 and 8; and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4 and 11 at the San Marcos Discovery Center, 430 Riverside Drive.
The class will cost $20 to cover textbooks and will require 20 hours of total classroom time and 20 hours of volunteering within 12 months of classroom completion.
Composting results in a material that has the ability to improve the chemical balance, texture and biological characteristics of soils and promotes plant growth with the help of bacteria, insects and worms.
