The Austin Civic Or­ches­tra is kick­ing off its new sea­son with a fam­ily-friendly con­cert. The pro­gram in­cludes “The Com­poser is Dead!,” a light-hearted who­dunit-type of mu­si­cal mys­tery with nar­ra­tion that teaches kids and adults alike about in­stru­ments in the or­ches­tra. Com­posed by Nathaniel Stookey, the piece is ac­com­pa­nied by text writ­ten by Le­mony Snicket. Show up early, at 3:15 p.m., for an in­stru­ment “pet­ting zoo,” in which any­one can try to play a lit­tle mu­sic.
