Limiting the size of houses

Austin American-Statesman - - OPINION -

Re: June 24 article “Push to limit house sizes surprises some.”

This article is disappointing. It appears that the writers merely spoke with one disgruntled citizen, not “some.” I resent the characterization of Southwood Neighborhood Association as not being up to par with other associations in Austin. This claim is merely the one disgruntled person’s opinion.

I live in Southwood and think the association has done a thorough job at communicating to citizens about the proposed expansion of the “McMansion” ordinance. If this person was not aware of what is going on, perhaps it is a reflection of his own disengagement?

Extending the boundaries of the “McMansion” ordinance is a good thing for our neighborhood. It would not affect people’s ability to remodel. It would prevent housing that would compromise the integrity of the neighborhood from being built. JENNIFER THOMAS Austin
